the space is relatively small and i don’t want to rent a drum sander for a room that tiny. i think buy drugs online i can take on that room without it being too much trouble. any suggestion?

You will be able to achieve a much better finish if you use a drum sander. If you are going to go through all the trouble of refinishing the floor you might as well do it right.
I did my entire tiny house ( a month), and one small room took several days, it was about 60 year old oak,and was a lot more work then I expected even with the floor sander.
Its going to take forever and you’re going to make a mess with just a handheld belt sander. You need the weight and pressure of the heavy machine to do it properly. Also the size/width of the drum sander is necessary for evenly sanding out the floorboards.
My suggestion, if you’re not going to do it right, don’t do it.
sure ya can. may need a palm sander as well to get along the edges but you will be able to do a fine job, go with the grain of the wood, use a good stain ,sealer and varnish. it will look great, just don’t rush it.
It is very unlikely to come out even. It’s worth the cost of the rent in time as well as finished appearance.
no, use a palm sander
you can but its going to be dusty…dont stop moving when using a belt sander , its easy to gouge your floor if you dont keep it moving…
When you use a belt sander you put pressure on it so that it grabs the wood. You will not be able to insure that the pressure is even at all times. This will lead to different sanded depths on your floor. Using a drum sander utilizes the weight of the machine to grab the wood and sands evenly all the time. If you stick with using the belt sander you risk disfiguring the floor. Spend the money and do it right the first time. Good Luck!
not really–a belt sander only goes in one direction–you need an orbiting sander–so it want leave stricks
