My husband has no experience with refinishing hardwood floors and didn’t research the best way to do (just got misleading tips from a friend). We sanded our oak hardwood floors an then my husband stained it with Minwax ebony stain. The next day I looked and it is uneven and lighter Buy Cipro in some places. What would be the best way to fix it? Would applying more stain in certain areas work or make it stand out? Please don’t say we have to sand it again!

You can try to apply more stain to the lighter areas, but typically that is still going to leave it uneven.
The best thing to do would be to resand and start over. Darker stains are harder to apply and should be built up in multiple coats. The other thing I would suggest (while more expensive and harder to do on larger surfaces) is a gel stain as they are a little bit easier to control and get an even color.
