the house is about 50 years old, i just got it. for the past 12 years there was a indoor/outdoor carpet glued on the floors (with lots of very very nasty glue). I have sanded them 3 times and I now realize they really arenever going to look to good. Want to do somethings with the wood – anybody ever paint on unevenly stained and damaged wood? Any ideas (other then carpeting or continue sanding) would be truly appreciated.

We sanded our hardwood floor to refinish it. All of a sudden, the nails showed up – we couldn’t really see them before sanding, now we have black nail heads on nice brown hardwood. How do we fix it so the nails don’t show so drastically?

I am remodeling a house….How long should we wait after painting to sand and refinish the antique wood floors???
Another question…..I have inherited my grandfathers house. This is the one with the wood floors. It was an old school house built in late 1800’s to early 1900’s. My father remembers when he was a child and putting some type of OIL on the floors to make them shine to keep from refinishing them. He didn’t say what kind of oil. Will this sand away with the top portion of the wood or will I be wasting my time sanding. If the oil is still present I’m afraid the poly will not stick and all of our work will be in vain. Any advise is appreciated.
